GHQ W46 T-80 with Reactive ArmourModern Spearhead demo scenario from PointCon 1999. It is a scenario based on an actual U.S. training battle fought at NTC.

The Soviet backed Krasnovian forces have launched a massive invasion of the Southern Continental United States. The Krasnovian 15th Combined Arms Army is moving to capture the juncture of Interstates 15 and 40 at Barstow, California, thus cutting off the main route leading from Arizona into Los Angeles. This area is being defended by the U.S. 20th Corps.

In support of this, the 26th Krasnovian MRD, which forms the northernmost element of the 1st echelon of the 15th CAA, is moving to fix in place the suspected enemy division (believed to be the U.S. 4th Armored Division) that is defending the area North of Barstow, in the vicinity of Fort Irwin; and thus isolating the actual U.S. division defending Barstow from potential reinforcement. This will also cover the 15th CAA from any CATKs (Counter ATtacKs) from the North. Meanwhile the U.S. 4th Armored Division defends the vicinity of Fort Irwin in support of 20th Corps defense of the East-West lines of communications formed by Interstates 15 and 40.

Please note: This scenario was developed during the early stages of Modern Spearhead’s development so the balance of the scenario may have changed slightly once the final version of Modern Spearhead and Errata is taken into account.

Terrain

Fort Irwin - Bicycle Lake Region

Battlefield is 8′ x 5′ (or up to 10′ x 6′ if you have it available) with entry points as marked above, and Fort Irwin should be represented as approximately 4-6 Town Sectors in size with a central crossroads. U.S. Forces may deploy up to 12″ in from marked table edges if desired. Krasnovians enter from marked table edges on Turn 1. Both sides may flank march on the long table edge opposite their entry zone up to half way along (i.e. the Krasnovians on the 4′ of Northern Edge closest to them, the U.S. on the 4′ of Southern edge closest to them). Krasnovian Helicopters may be deemed to enter from anywhere on the South or East table edge, U.S. the West table edge. Krasnovian Artillery units have 7 Fire Missions (for HE, Smoke, or for the Rocket Battalion up to 2 non-persistant Chemical attacks costing 2 FMs each), & U.S. Artillery have 9 FMs and any specialist ammo types normally available (as rules, costing 1 or 2 FM as appropriate) except any Chemicals (you can’t risk dosing your own civilians) or Chemical Smoke (not available). Nuclear weapons are not available to either side, and both sides must specify pre-game what round types & how many the fire missions’ for each unit are. The Game Length is 18 Turns and all other rules are as per standard rule book.
